Hahah you guys are so funny. I like to debate and complain like the rest of you, but you guys are never content. What kills me is people hoarding items for when the price goes up again....like you want it to.
Honestly, even if Anet hired the worlds best economists people would still be mad (I would guess even madder because you'd have to rethink your greed).

FFS - I'll repeat what I've been saying. I didn't buy GW to get into some half-assed pseudo-commodity-trading Wall Street Stock Exchange simulation. The game doesn't change because of it.
If you missed out on the 3 minute rush to buy up black dyes, ectos and sup vigor, well boo-hoo. I missed out, and I'm not crying. I'm still having a good time bashing monsters and progressing a 2nd character as well as the odd jaunt into the UW & FoW.
If anything, the 3 minute rushers are probably feeling that the game is ruined now. In exactly the same way as the Ebay gold buyers, the challenge has been taken out of trying to acquire needed stuff.
So dry your eyes, blow your nose, and forget about the price of dye or Obsidian. Just play the game and have fun, or switch off and read the Financial times if it bugs you that much.

What is an ecto?
So what happened is that everything the merchants sell was reset to 100 gold each? Meaning several powerful items were bought for dirt cheap by the players who were online at the time?
Oh well, is my first reaction. And then I think it sucks that the rest of us missed out.

i think the only thing that arena net ever did involving "stupid" and "economy" together, was letting players buy out merchants. Sold out? WTF?
if merchants dont sell out, and theres a cap put on all items, then people will be forced to sell under the merchants asking price.
and they should be. more than half of the people posting in this thread are saying "wtf i hoarded as much as i could to make money and contribute to rising prices, and it got reset? (oh no my ebil planz ef thwarted)" or "well its cheaper to hoard so now im gonna do it again and drive up prices! (ill beh back! ahaha ufcant stopmeh!)"
stop being jerks and ruining the game for people. you can still make 1 bijillion gold (if u have that kind of time) if prices are fixed and merchants dont run out (sell above what merchant offers u and below the current sale price) , while at the same time, the rest of us can afford a rune or some dye.
buying out merchants to force people to pay what u dictate is bullshit. And for those of you who talk about economy, there are trade laws that prevent companies from monopolizing the market. Otherwise some1 might buy all the cows and charge you 15$ for milk. i love chocolate milk. i love that it costs only 3$ A GALLON and that theres no powergamers trying to drive up the price of chocolatte milk. chocolate milk- not only for the rich.

Awesome! Great! Finally!
I was not, for the first time in weeks, playing when the change went into effect - damn! My bad luck, in the game...game...game.
New players will have their level field.
Horders and people playing just to sell things at unGodly prices, by the way - why do these people play? - may quit. GOOD, maybe that was the intent.
Can't believe I took that night off, of all nights, to take a break from gameplay. There - I said it again: gameplay, a game...
I like playing the game, and the game is about the adventure, the battles, the storyline, the comeraderie - not:
"WTS - Black Dye 30k, GODly Sword of Pummel-Thrusting c/o 50k, b/o 110k"
I got so sick of those lines popping up everywhere. Will they be gone? Time will tell.
Did this game die? Nah...it might have wiped itself clean of people that really did not play the game, for the game, but to sit around Ascalon and Lion's Arch hawking big ticket items? What for? Was that fun?
The title of the game is 'Guild Wars'. The intent of the game is 'warring'.
Not: 'WTS Wars' and 'Salemanship'.
My peace...way to go A.Net.

Nice thing about this game: it doesn't force you to play it. So, for all the WTS traders and 105 build farmers (and the like) who think the game sucks now, nice knowing you. Have a good day. Catch 'ya later.
Somebody please close this thread...

so what does GW really stand for?
GW=
Gear Wars
Gold Wars
Greed Wars
Gimped Wars
Does that cover the new update? I agree, sellers will not go to the traders to sell and buyers will start to look at the sellers to buy from do to out-of-stock situations.
So if Anet's answer is to program continuous replenishment of trader stock, then it becomes less and less inspiring to finish the PvE game. I agree, it doesn't directly affect the game play, but psychologically, if I can easily get a superior vigor rune from a trader, then this is one less significant reward that I no longer look forward to as I venture further in PvE. I sincerely hope they do provide some new unique weapons and items and implement greater character customization to offset what is happening with the recent update. I think the artificially high prices of certain items was not something that needed immediate attention.

The only way that this change would have made any kind of sense, is if the npcs were also given unlimited supply, in order to meet the constant demand in a non-finite game environment linked between worlds and new characters springing up from even old players.

Sure the roll back in pricing was supposed to help people, but reducing prices to the very minimum was stupid. Not only that but they didn't put any kind of limit on what people could buy. Even if prices do not skyrocket comlpletely out of control the sheer profit from 300 to 6K is astronimical even if they sell to traders, especailly if the bought 200 ectos or more.
Having monk runs go from 50K + to zero is also pretty assinine, people buting 10-12 or more, now the traders are completely sold out. Sure some guys got them cheap, but what about the guys that missed out?
I bought RYL yesterday, and even though it is 9.99 a month to play it I am probably going to switch over. It is actually free if you keep taking surveys every month,.
Until Anet stops making knee jerk reactions to every problem that come up this game is going to be completley unbalanced. PvP versu PvE, and now wealthy against Super wealthy against noob.
How exactly did this update help ANYONE but the guys who hapened to be online at the moment it happened and had ehough gold to hoard and hoard and hoard?
Admittedly I bought my fair share of cheap stuff, but who cares? I already had stuff saved up. So does it make it any better? Of course not, but if I didn't then I would be at a "disadvantage" against every other guy that was doing the same thing. So how does that help the game. Forcing guys with hundreds of thousands of gold into thinking that they HAVE to buy things just to keep up with the Jones?
Because undoubtedly a week or 10 days from now whenthe traders are stil out of stock on items peeole can start charging what they want again, and eventually it wil be even worse than it was.
Since the traders won't ever be in stock of an item then how canpeople get an idea of "value"? People always check the trader before buying materials, Bt if they are selling that option is gone, if player need 100 damask to make that Elemetal armor and the trader has none, but would only charge say 300 if he did, what is to say the guy that has 1000 units stored can't charge 100 k for it? Sure you can make Damask, but that takes time and a trip to some collectors not easilly obtained.
When the economy of a game starts overrinding the PLAYING of the game then it is in serious trouble.
I do not see how this helped anyone out in the long run.
As a side note, if the gold drops have decreased as some have alluded to, then that compounds the problem for all the newer guys.
A very shortsighted and extreme move that might eventually make MANY people stop playing this game, and probably make a lot not even start or continue, if they are new to it.
While it is easy to criticize after the fact, and definalteyl hard to please everyone. This move by them was probably the worst option they could have made. A complete reset of item with absolutely no limit on quantities allowed to but.
That would be like Bill Gates saying OK I am going to reset shares of Microsoft at one penny a share come and get them. A very few would soon own all the shares avaialable, and anyone looking to get them in the future would have to pay what the owners wanted. But this is a foolish analogy, since we all know that ecot is more covetted than shares of Microsoft.

Yep, but...
In a good working game economy people wouldn't buy out the merchants. The problem is as I can tell (since I have very little to do with this) is that as usual they tried to fix something not antisapating that peeps would take advantage of it by hoarding.
It's just another example of people in this game taking advantage of the game mechanics. I wonder who's to blame though the players, or the game for not having some control.

Forgive me if i'm being ignorant (first post, be nice) but couldn't they solve the problem of hoarding by capping the number of each item a player can hold at once? e.g. only 50 tanned hides at a time. There's no real reason to be holding 1000 of something so a cap might force players to sell to the trader (or stand around for hours spamming the trade channel).

its always fun to see someone post what im thinking...
I am sick of these "GW sucks now" threads... Anet has done nothing wrong, the community is the one to blame, so please leave and play something else, i hear elmo Abc is a fun game for people like you...
Anet always knows that they are doing, its greedy children like half of the players who screw everything up, ya so ecto was 300gp, big whoop, doesnt mean you have to buy half a million of them... i find it ironic how everyone is like "think of the newbies" when they are new, but the second they get to a major city its a "lets screw over the newbies and blame Anet for the 1000th time!"
The economy is fine
Anet is doing the right thing
The community are a bunch of whining little childeren (no matter what age they are)
Guild Wars is a great game infected with a virus known as by far the worst, needy, immature, finger pointing, Anet blaming, greedy morons of a community (not everyone, but about 90% of them)
Ironicly half of the guild wars "haters" are on a fan forum... get off your high horse and stop complaining because you missed the big gold rush and now all your farming has gone to waste (despite popular belief Anet does not work around your life and scedual)... first of all boo hoo, second of all i told everyone farming was a waste of time and i didnt even need that frog to know it...
I will gladly accept your insults towards this game once you make a game better than Guild Wars

96 bottles of beer left ... if I get to 1 and here you still crying about how crappy the game is then Im gonna nerf your common sense ... to all who have fallen to the 'game sucks now' ... no one is holding you here ... it is free ... come back when there is more content / balance that you are seeking ... if not ... its no lose you have already gotten lots of time for your money ...
many other great titles on the market depending on your fotm. Sad to see ya'll upset with it ... I have fun with friends online ... thats it ... fun, conversations, talking, pissing around, sabatoging anyones plans, dont really care about any of the 'omg i take this too seriously crap' ... If I get as bored as many have ... I will move to another game ... but I won't b-tch on these forums about it ... because there really is no point.
(sorry for the hijack here but kinda related)
to all who are interested in alpha testing an rpg ... check out ddo it on the horizon and it (is said to use combat skills like juking, diving, duking and dodgeing attacks) sounds like it has potential, plus the monthly fee will keep it at a somewhat mature level ... f-ck i hope i dont fall to boredom like you guys ... but fyi
